Manaaki Live | Miria Flavell | Hine Collection

In this episode of Manaaki Live Pat MacFie talks to the amazing Wahine behind Hine Collection, Miria Flavell. “What inspired this brand for me was being quite ‘over’ seeing the same type of body images all over social media. Activewear & Fashion Label Accounts were a huge place for that. So I became really passionate about the idea of creating an active wear clothing line that catered to women of all shapes and sizes. My mission was to help make ALL women feel AMAZING, CONFIDENT and COMFORTABLE in our activewear” – Miria Flavell, Owner of Hine Collection

Manaaki Live | Hannah Mellsop | Real Rad Food

Hannah – owner & founder, former chief ball roller and current CEO – began making healthy treats as a creative outlet, each dessert more drool-worthy than the last. A passionate plant-based creative, she began sharing these treats to instagram as a way to meet more like-minded people. The more Hannah shared, the more she realised she was becoming part of a greater movement; a movement towards real food and conscious consumption. These two values became the foundation for Real Rad Food, which Hannah made an official brand in 2017. Cheers to that! Since then Real Rad Food has grown from just Hannah selling her creations at local markets, to a team of 5 that provide for over 80 cafes and grocers around New Zealand, and an online store that delivers to the doors of Kiwis everyday. Even further than that Real Rad Food has become a brand that makes it easier for the every day gal to take a moment to look after their body, through the introduction of Real Rad Protein Hormonal Blend. Much like the raw treats this product was born from Hannah’s own experience with learning how to balance her hormones and look after her health despite a busy lifestyle.

Manaaki Live | Eric & Graeme | The Cookie Project

The Cookie Project is a social enterprise that that employs Kiwis with disabilities to make delicious cookies. Founded in 2018 by Graeme and Eric, our purpose is to help Kiwis with disabilities understand their own value to themselves and to society by paying them at least the minimum wage of $17.70 an hour. We’re leading New Zealand with our inclusive employment framework for the disability community, by having a pan-disability recruitment policy and we never ask for resume nor do we conduct interviews. All our cookies are hand made at the Eat My Lunch kitchen, using only the finest Kiwi ingredients like Lewis Road Creamery butter so we know you’ll love the taste as much as the purpose behind it.

Manaaki Live | Will Barker | Mint Innovation

Today we are joined by the Founder and CEO of Mint Innovation, Will Barker, who shares with us what it is like to be in a bit of ‘hole’ in the wage subsidy scheme. As “inventors of stuff” Mint aims to get through, and has some support from heavy hitters, but in Will’s own words “its going to require all sorts of different mechanisms” As we’ve found on our own Manaaki journey, not all small businesses are the same, particularly in the Tech Sector and Mint Innovation would appreciate a rule change to get them through.

Manaaki Live | Nick Mowbray | Co Founder Zuru

When Nick was 18, he and his brother Mat decided to turn what was then a hobby into a proper business. They had both cut short any plans to finish university and moved to China, which wasn’t a glamorous start by any means, but something must have been promising as their sister Anna joined them roughly a year later – and they are now one of the most successful entrepreneurial stories in this country. In a time when the ability to move, respond and adapt to an ever shifting environment is critical, we talk to Nick about the importance of innovation.
