Hi there

There is a really good guide for what businesses must do in terms of consumer guarantees at https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/guidance-for-businesses/complying-with-consumer-laws/obligations-under-the-consumer-guarantees-act/. You do not necessarily have to give a 12 month warranty (particularly if a general consumer wouldn’t expect the product to last that long).

Also have a look at https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/guidance-for-businesses/complying-with-consumer-laws/obligations-under-the-fair-trading-act/ in terms of what you must, can, and cannot say about your products.

Plus maybe have a bit of a browse around the product safety, other consumer laws and returns and complaints page on that site.

If your product is a medical device (or you’re not sure whether it is), have a look at https://www.medsafe.govt.nz/.

Happy to have a bit more of a chat if that helps. My details are at https://kindrik.co.nz/team/averill-dickson/.
