Hi, I have a small business that makes reusable food packaging. We are one year old and have been making everything by hand. We have approximately 20 stockists in NZ and are keeping up with the demand. We have recently received offers from companies overseas wanting to act as distributors in UAE, Japan and UK. We believe these are genuine as we have a product that is a world first. We have the funds to invest and grow, but currently we are super small and just working out of a garage so this is difficult for us to get our heads around as to how we will manage this. Our product is also able to be copied very easily but we do have the advantage of a strong story and brand. So essentially we are out of our depth but don’t want to miss out on these opportunities. One thing I have thought of doing next week is trying to throw together an advisory board. What advice can you offer us? Thanks in advance.

Hi Team :) Just wondering if I could please get some help and advise on setting up a new Honey exporting venture, exporting Honey to Europe.I am looking into two different options: to export packaged and labelled honey in jars, or in bulk drums.I am new to this, and still in the process of researching and learning, so any help and advise would be much appreciated with regard to pros and cons on the two above options, as well as the best and most stream lined way to set up an exporting venture.

Kia ora! I am launching a new board game for speakers and learners of te reo Māori, and have sourced some (particularly luxe) sand timers from a company in Guangdong China on Ali Baba. I have received samples which we are happy with. I want to place a large order (approx 1000pcs) and the best quote I have received is (in USD) $0.51 per piece, plus $667 in freight. Total $1,177 USD for 1000 units. I know there is a tax threshold in NZ where you have to pay GSTSo my questions are:* Should we break up the order into smaller chunks that fit under this threshold?* Is there anything I should be aware of/due diligence to do before doing this business internationally?Thank you in advance!Ngā mihiRosie

Hi! We are beginning to sell more and more of our handmade jewellery overseas. Being jewellery we must apparently send it via international courier which is expensive at $57+ to germany, US etc. We currently use our local NZ post shop but this is proving to be a bit of a rigmarole and seems expensive. Is there a better option? Dhl perhaps? Or via a company like Interparcel? I’d like to be able to book and pay online, print any documents needed off myself, and have them pickup the parcel from my door. It looks like Dhl does all of these things but are there better options available in NZ these days? My internet research thus far has confused me further so any help would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks in advance! Marisa: www.offtrackarts.nz

Hi, I am looking into being stocked in supermarkets overseas e.g. Aldi and Costco and going through the submission process and not understanding the Jargon. How can I learn more about this? Who can I speak to? These are overseas stores so it needs to be someone who has been through the process. Thank you

I am looking at setting up a business which imports ambient food into NZ and nothing that is in a high risk biosecurity category eg pasta, which when imported into NZ will incur a % duty for payment. If i then decide to export some of this imported food to Australia, do i have to pay any additional duty on arrival into Australia?

I’m looking for resources to offer to staff who are being made redundant – anything that will help to support them. Is there somewhere I can go to find this information or a list of resources that would be useful?

Morning- we are in the process of rolling into offshore markets- now with Covid 19 travel/ face to face will now not be an option. I believe if I can access the right people directly – (the buyers) though connections this may still work. Lucky our products are always in demand- welcome thoughts. Thank you

Does anyone have any tips on the best approach to finding out a single market need/pain point for a international market such as the US or UK? Without actually being local it makes it hard to validate so any thoughts would be welcomed on how this could be done from afar, or at least to break some ground initially.
